Everyone from Gaga stans to Gaga haters were claiming that this song was a terrible lead single choice and a weak way to start off the ARTPOP era. Many of these complaints seemed to emerge after the single reached #2 on the US iTunes charts. Now, after the music video and VMA performance, do you think that "Applause" was a bad single choice for 'ARTPOP'?
A week ago I would've said yes, but after the MV and VMA performance, I am forced to admit that once again, Gaga has proven to be one step ahead of her fans in terms of figuring out what they like () and we should try to remember that she actually does know what she's doing.
I still think she could've come harder. But the video and VMA performance redeemed it somewhat for me. I still need to see/hear more, which is why the itunes festival will be the cincher for my hype for the album

A horrible first choice. And If her and her team really thought that Applause was the best single choice it speaks volumes about the other songs on the album.
