Gaga VMA performance very well received by audience

why would people stay for something that's not even live and performed in front of them

what matters is that more people watched Katy on TV than Gaga
Well, Katy didn't even perform live. It was obviously not gonna get the same house reaction as Gaga.
There were probably a lot of people that decided to get outta there before the crowds started a traffic jam.
