To make matters worse, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the label's best-selling album for the first 6 months of 2013 was Michael Jackson's 'Thriller', with 84,000 copies. Naturally, considering this string of flops, I have to ask: do you consider Reid's revamped Epic Records to be a failure?

I think that LA Reid is taking risks and doing things from scratch. He knows what he's doing. I love how Ciara was given 2 really good music videos and how Cher Lloyd is completely transformed and gaining popularity.

Their promo department is to blame and that's why there were mass firings lately. Things should pick up in the next 6 months.

The cost of those music videos alone put a giant dent in the company's funds, and--as much as I like both artists--there's very little return. HTNGU was discounted and managed to creep platinum. Also, think of all the delays on Ciara's album, the recording costs, etc. Besides, after six weeks on the chart, 'Ciara' is already down to 80. And, unlike Avril, she doesn't have the international sales to make up for it.

Do you honestly believe Ciara had a huge budget to begin with?
She only had good promo during release week everything else has been minor.

No, they gave her two more singles because they need this album to work or L.A. (and the label) will face the wrath of Sony. Remember when Interscope-Geffen-A&M almost went bust after the failure of will.i.am's and Nicole Scherzinger's albums? All it takes is a couple of artists, and Interscope, even back then, had a higher market share than Epic. A catalogue album is literally all that's funding A&R, promotions, everything. And now that Avril's album has been delayed, the label is going to face even more hardship. Mark my words: it's going to the way of Jive, and not even Britney Spears herself could save that.
