MILEY EXPLAINS 'MY TRUTH' TRACK-BY-TRACK
1. MY TRUTH
This song is just about my new life. It's a welcome to my world, it's a welcome to my life + it's a welcome to my truth. My truth may not be the truth... but as an artist I get to play around and create a vision that I want. I felt like this was the perfect opening track because it truly is an impeccable introduction to the album. This track is one of my favorites and having written this by myself, I feel like it's the closest track to my heart.
2. START ALL OVER... AGAIN
When I was with Disney, I did a song called Start All Over. It was about me shaping up to be Miley Cyrus in the public eye, not Hannah Montana. But here I am, years later with a new image. So with myself and my music, I needed to start it all over... again. So I took the old Start All Over and advanced the production. The lyrics came along as a similar structure, but the only thing that changed was really the vocals and the genre of the song.
3. FREE FALLING
This song to me is the most powerful song on the album. It speaks on a level of volumes which really made me leans towards it as the lead single. I feel like with this single, there's a message about staying true to yourself. For me, it's also a revolution because I knew people would look at me in a different way once they heard this track. It's one of my favorites, and I'm glad a lot of people loved it.
4. IN YOUR EYES
This is definitely the most emotional, energy draining and vocally powerful track on the album. This song is very close to my heart and I feel like it contains a message. It's all about saying "goodbye" and letting go of someone you love. Whether it's a friendship down the drain, a death or a genuine love for someone, I knew I wanted to put this song on the album so badly. It really reflects what a lot of people go through everyday, so this one is also dedicated to my Smilers.
5. TURNT UP
This is my real, Urban banger on the album. My image has changed to a more Urban style nowadays, so it's no surprise I'm making underground Club bangers. This song for me is just about getting loose, partying and living for the moment. Definitely one of my favorites on the album and I know it'll become a fan favorite too.
6. WHERE WAS THE LOVE?
This song in particular, was probably the hardest to write. As many people know, I dated Liam Hemsworth for over four years and we were close to tying the knot. Um... but things didn't really finish that way. He ended up cheating on me, and I was just left to be independent and fighting off my broken heart. This song is definitely a tougher, hard Pop-Rock song because I felt like I became more of a powerhouse after that split. And after that event, I was just questioning the entire relationship. I didn't know what the love was, or if the mutual love was there... So this a track created by that.
7. WE TWERK (feat. khia)
Twerking is just one of my favorite things to do ever. Like anytime, anyday I'm ready to get my ass banging on the walls and up in the air. This song is just a twerking anthem that I worked with underground rapper Khia. She's one of my favorite rappers of all-time and I know she can bring the booty on the stage. This was one of the funnest songs to record and I twerk to this all the time.
8. ON THE RADIO (feat. macklemore)
This is one of my funnest, coolest and most amazing songs on my album. I just wanted to make a song about the radio, that could be on the radio which would have people bopping in their car radios. When I saw Macklemore becoming famous, I was just thinking dammit is this guy dope or what! We got a few calls, wrote a few lyrics, made some sick track and popped this one right in the studio. This was also a really amazing one to record and it's gonna be even more amazing on the radio.
9. SHOT ME UP (feat. will.i.am)
I have so much respect for will.i.am in this industry. He's really been a hitmaker and an innovator, and he definitely knows how to craft a perfect song for any artist in the studio. I did a song on his album, which was incredibly fun and chill. I wanted to have my version of that song, just a little bit cleaner and a bit different production wise. This track is definitely another twerk banger and I know people are gonna enjoy it when it comes on their iPods.
10. INVISIBLE
Towards the end, I wanted to have a captivating, sort of dynamic feel to the album when it closes. And I felt this song was a great transition to help reach the closing of the album. I knew I wanted a fresh, yet darker song on the album which extends into Alternative a bit. I felt like this song would really show off my artistry and showcase even more variety with the album. This ended up being one of my favorites, although I have many on the album.
11. HURTS LIKE GOLD
Another personal, very vocal track on the album. Although the prodcution is more involved than the other ballads, I put this song towards the closing because it does have a very strong meaning. I wrote this song while containing a lot of feelings, so the messages are a bit mixed because of that. I really like to keep many of the details to myself with this song, but a strong reference about money, love and goodbye is definitely mentioned. By far my favorite mid-tempo track on the album.
12. BITCH LIKE THAT (with lindsay lohan)
My favorite collaboration I've ever done in my career. This song is absolutely perfect for me and Lindsay. We decided to make this both of our follow-up singles because it just connects to a storyline from our lead singles. Although both of us have slightly different messages, we can both merge into one brilliant idea with this song. The song's fun, catchy and easy to jam to. I'm so happy my Smilers and the LiLo Lovers are head-over-heels for it.
13) ON TOP OF THE WORLD
This track was definitely hard to place, as I was questioning where it should end up being at. The song's about people trying to tear me down, but my positive energy, my fans, my friends, my family - my life... keeps me going and going. And not only at, but they make me feel like the luckiest person in the whole wide world. So critics, haters or whoever may try to bring me down but I'm always going to feel like a champion. I felt like this was a perfect closing because it has a good ending to my opening track and this song is definitely at that Rhythmic, Pop dyanmic vibe I wanted to end with.
Thanks to everyone who supported and continues to support the era! I hope we can acheive many things from this! Xo
