I thought modern day gay men would be progressive and empathetic towards other minority groups. Its one to be attracted to a certain type of people but to dedicate time and effort to the disparagement of persons of colour ...

I agree wholeheartedly, but I guess a lot of the time when it comes to holding the seat of power within a minority. Subconscious measures to maintain the status quo are made.

Add to the fact that America having a lot more racial issues than most of the progressive society doesn't help matters. I've heard so many American men of colour say they've encountered more racism from within the gay community than from anywhere else.
