I remember seeing this on an episode of River Monsters. They were initially vegetarian, but because of humans introducting to a different climate (on opposite sides of the world to where it should be) it started to develop teeth to compensate for food. And it's rounded like human teeth, so it hurts like HELL when it bites, rather than a pirahna which is just a clean sharp cut.
