News: Disney's Toontown to close on September 19th

The $9.95-a-month game, which Disney called the first massively multiplayer online title for kids and families, made its debut in June 2003. Pirates of the Caribbean Online and Disney Fairies Pixie Hollow will also close.

The changes leave the $7.95-a-month Club Penguin as the only so-called virtual world operated by Disney. The site, acquired in 2007, is the largest of its kind, according to the company, which is asking players to move there. Club Penguin has added content tied to characters from “Star Wars” and Pixar films such as “Monsters University.” More than 200 million penguin characters have been created, Variety reported in July.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger has been working to shore up Disney’s interactive unit, which lost $216 million last year. This week, the company introduced its Infinity video-game system, which features collectibles including Pixar’s Buzz Lightyear and Captain Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Disney, the world’s largest entertainment company, fell 1.2 percent to $61.14 at the close in New York. The stock has climbed 23 percent this year, beating the 15 percent gain of the benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.

I remember always wanting to go on it as a kid from the commercials on Disney, but it cost money I think.

I always wanted to throw pie's on the Goofy characters faces' like in the commercial.

Lol all of these were popular like....2007 so idk how they even lasted til now. But if they have billions in money, just let the site rot to the 10 people that still use it

literally was my childhood, I bought those 1 month CD's back when it was released in like, Circuit City I believe. I always wanted to play it again since but never renewed my membership... As for ClubPenguin, it's cute, but strict and kinda of a bore eventually. Only so much you can do in a point click game... Cute though kids love it still! But RIP ToonTown

I only cleared up maybe 3 cog buildings at most...

eh. i never really played it. it looked cool at the time but my parents didn't want to spend the money and when they finally did my interests shifted to VMK (WHICH THEY UNRIGHTFULLY CLOSED, THOSE BITCHES) but yeah. i'm sad they're closing those games but the Disney company's changed a lot as far as gaming's concerned. they've got Club Penguin, their slew of mobile games and now Disney Infinity which is expected to be very immerse.

Yeah, I heard about this recently.. it makes me really sad because I remember playing this for hours and hours on end. I quit a few times and closed down my subscription around late last year, but it's still sad to see it go because it was fun, entertaining and the objectives and tasks were great to waste time on.

I knew they were going to do this sooner or later. They barely ever updated the game "visually" anyways. The content was pretty cool year round but the studio in which the game was produced wasn't financially able to fix it up as much as they could have. The games/task were really fun though and I'll miss it, but I definitely knew this was coming. It was basically hanging on for dear life.
