Hello Bill! My top 3 questions....
Loved all your answers so far!
A thousand thanks in advance for answering these when you get the chance
1) What are your thoughts on Thom Yorke's recent controversial comments about the Spotify model being unsustainable for artists without the corporate structure behind them in addition to pulling his new material from their service? Spotify says it essentially needs "more time" to make the system work for 'home-grown' artists but I don't buy that argument...
2) An acquaintance of mine that interned for Z100 a few years back told me ClearChannel hires consulting firms that determine what gets played on Top 40. I was always somewhat skeptical about the "ageist radio" argument until she also told me one of the firm's new demographic "criteria" is heavy resistance to artists over 40 unless they include a younger feature. Is there any truth to that statement?
3) Aside from strong contacts and grasp of social media, what should an artist have/utilize trying to follow the Macklemore model of an unknown artist on their own (or relatively independent) label trying to strike it big (or at least make it bigger)? What worked in his case?
