Hi I’m BtDecember and I love TAYLOR SWIFT!!! I am a Swiftie from the Philippines, which is now on the state of calamity (pray for us). And this is how I became an avid fan of her...
The first song that I heard from Taylor is “Teardrops on My Guitar”. I think I was in first year high school when that magical event happened (I am now a graduating student of BSHRM). The song was popular here in the Philippines. I got to know that masterpiece when my sister let me listen to it in the radio because it was the number one song in that radio station at the time. She said that it was her current favorite, but for me it was quite bland because I was a sucker for upbeat songs at that time and slow songs don’t usually grow on me in first listens. But I was captured with the songs interlude, which I thought “nice” and “magical”. But that doesn’t make me her regular listener of her.
Two years after when I was in third year high school, I again encountered a Taylor Swift song and it was “Love Story”. The song was EXTREMELY popular at that time and Taylor Swift was the most popular singer I think (Justin Bieber came second. Eww). This time, my classmate was the one that introduced it to me. We had a project at that time and that is to sing in a group and she came up and thought “Love Story” is the perfect song to perform. But since we want to be different, we altered it a bit. We changed the tune of it to “Just Stand Up” by Stand Up to Cancer artist and it was fabulous! (But its original tune is better and more enchanting, rest assured) After that I got interested with Taylor Swift and search her songs in the internet. I was shocked that she has so many beautiful and catchy songs and I instantly got hooked with “The Way I Loved You”, “Fearless”, “You Belong with Me” (which at the time was not yet popular), and some songs from her debut like “Our Song”, “Picture to Burn”, “Should’ve Said No”, “A Place in This World” and many more. Taylor Swift then became my regular jam. And I remember a friend of mine who became addicted to “Fearless” when I introduced it her. Hahaha
Sure Taylor became one of my fave artists that time but I was turned to a DIE HARD FAN when I heard and learned the meaning of the song “Back to December”! That song is a masterpiece and will always be my favorite song of her. I got to know her better during the time when she is on the promotion for the release of her third album “Speak Now”. I got excited when she released promotional singles every week and I started to search interviews and news about her. I was so amazed when she SOLD A MILLION in a week! Speaking of “Speak Now”, the album is still the best album of her. Although I love “Red”, for me, “Speak Now” has more soul and it really showcases Taylor’s talent, and for me the album is more diverse than “Red”. Also, I love every story and emotion she poured in every song in that album. I love how she lowers her voice and sounds so sincere in “Back to December” and “Last Kiss”. I love how she sounds triumph and upbeat in “Long Live” and “Sparks Fly”. And I adore how she showcases her pain in “Dear John” and so magical in “Enchanted”. “Speak Now” really got me BIG TIME.
At this moment, I still a diehard fan of Taylor Swift. I love the individuality in each albums of her. I love how she progress in her every record and experiment other sound. I love how she is a both a singer and a songwriter, how she solely wrote “Speak Now” and how successful she is, both critically and commercially. “Red”, although not my favorite album of her, it still continues to be an avid fan. I love “All Too Well” and “State of Grace” very much. I also love “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “Red”. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is catchy and I am addicted to it, although lyrically, it’s the worst in the album for me. But what makes me addicted to it is how “anthemic” and at the same time clever it was. It was my most played song in my iTunes (I got overplayed it on its release day that’s why and the play counts in my iTunes was erased weeks before its release). “Red” comes at number two of my favorite album of hers for me with a close fight with “Fearless” at number three. Although her debut album is the fourth, it doesn’t mean that I hate it. I LOVE ALL HER ALBUMS. And I will always be a Taylor Swift diehard fan.
I hope I didn’t bore you to death with this post. HAHAHA. Anyway, my other fave artist is Avril Lavigne, although my love for her didn’t came in at least one-fourth of my love for Taylor. I love bands like Maroon 5 and the disbanded Westlife but I hate One Direction for being so gay and immature (but some of their songs are catchy). And I love music in general! I always hang out in music websites like Billboard and Music Yahoo. That’s it. THANK YOU for reading. It was already like a blog. HAHAHA
