It's one thing for a new artist to be compared to an established one as a point of reference for those who may be unfamiliar with the new artist's work, but it's another for that new artist to completely embody a an older artist's entire vibe down to the vocal ticks and instrumentals and rebrand it as something new.
It needs to be called out because there's a generation of people now who haven't grown up on Mariah's flawless early work that will listen to Ariana and think that she's 100% unique when she's really anything but.
