Celeb News: Zoe Saldana signs with Lionsgate (Pantelion)

The move is the latest Lionsgate push to attract the Hispanic population, currently at 50 million and poised to grow four times faster than the rest of the U.S.

The studio formed Pantelion Films, the first major Latino-focused Hollywood studio, with Mexico's Grupo Televisa in 2010, and in January 2012 teamed with Televisa to create English-language TV fare with Latina flair.

Before that partnership, Lionsgate released the features Ladron and La Mujer de Mi Hermano in accordance with CEO Jon Feltheimer's priority to reach the Hispanic demo, which has helped parlay big-screen entries such as The Expendables and The Last Exorcism into its biggest hits.

Says Zoe: "We look forward to a fruitful and productive relationship with Pantelion."

I think it's great what they're doing but I'm a little "meh" about Zoe doing it.

She's going to get a lot of backlash from a certain group of people...

Um, not really. It's not like she's denying who she is by catering to another group that makes up half of what she is.

She acknowledges all of who she is.

We know that but other people don't see it that way. Lots of people are doing the most when it comes to her based off of the whole Nina thing and her comments in that Star Trek interview.

It's not half of what she is. Both of her parents are Latinos. I think the people who are upset about it are uable to grasp that it's not a race. She is black and being a Latina doesn't contradict that.

What did she say in the Star Trek interview?

I don't think she's right for the Nina role, either. Aside from that, I haven't heard many people give her a hard time about her race/ethnicity. She's always been very vocal and proud of it.

I'm just mainly speaking on commenters and some bloggers/blogs that are hard on her.
