The US chart is such a mess, she sells the double of Robin and still doesn't go #1.

Blurred Lines currently has the highest airplay of all time, so of course he'll be #1. In a normal week Katy would've got #1 easily imo.

Roar could've gone #1 in its third week had her label released the video this week but it probably won't go #1 until after her VMA performance (in its fourth charting week).
Applause could go Top 5 next week. Streaming points will be huge. Unless most of her YT views are coming from outside the US.

But she wasn't streamed nearly as much or heard on radio even half as much. Like 500,000 people bought her single, but almost 300 million heard "Blurred Lines."
On a side note, I can't with so many people thinking radio doesn't belong on the charts. I wanted Katy to be #1, too (for the sake of Mariah's legendary record), but the formula is the way it is for a reason. It was a good fight and there's no need to be sore about it, especially when Katy's got a great shot of climbing to the Summer Songs list before it ends and extending her record

BL's AirPlay is the equivalent of like 375,000 downloads. Plus, he sold almost 300,000. Toughest competition possible for Katy.

Robin Thicke No. 1, Katy Perry No. 2 On Hot 100
By Gary Trust, New York | August 21, 2013 1:00 PM EDT
'Blurred Lines,' featuring T.I. and Pharrell, leads for an 11th week, fending off Katy Perry's 'Roar,' which rockets 85-2. Plus, Lady Gaga's 'Applause' debuts at No. 6
In an extremely close race, Robin Thicke tops the Billboard Hot 100 for an 11th week with "Blurred Lines" (featuring T.I. and Pharrell). The song narrowly holds off Katy Perry's "Roar," which blasts 85-2 following its first full week of sales. Lady Gaga's "Applause" adds to the top 10's shakeup, debuting at No. 6, also after its first week of sales.
Despite "Roar" arriving as the top-selling song in the U.S., Thicke's lead in streaming and airplay is just enough for "Lines" to fend off Perry's challenge.
"Lines" leads Radio Songs for a seventh week, gaining by 1% to a record-extending 228.9 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. It posts a seventh week atop the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (1.8 million U.S. streams, down 13%, according to BDS), while holding at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (6.6 million, down 13%). On Digital Songs, "Lines" dips 1-2 after 10 frames on top with 291,000 downloads sold (down 16%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The song also logs an 11th week at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and a 14th week atop R&B Songs, while becoming just the 18th title to dominate the Hot 100 for at least 11 weeks.
Despite its declines in sales and streaming, "Lines" manages to maintain its spot atop the Hot 100 over "Roar," which makes the chart's greatest positional jump since Drake's "Make Me Proud" (featuring Nicki Minaj) flew 97-9 the week of Nov. 5, 2011; it's the largest leap for a song by a lead female since Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" galloped 96-11 the week of Oct. 10, 2009.
"Lines" and "Roar," in fact, are separated by just a 3.3% difference in overall chart points (with "Lines" down by 9% and "Roar" up by 1,262%).

I wish Katy had gotten that #1. Blurred Lines has overstayed it's welcome. If I search Blurred Lines on my twitter, everyone is talking about how it is always on the radio and most people are sick of it and will turn off the radio or switch to another station. Same with Get Lucky, so I'm glad Katy and GaGa punched that song down a few spots.
I wish radio would at least give other songs some airplay. Blurred Line's overplayage isn't really doing it any favors with the general public other than sales.

Oh. I wanted Katy at #1 badly. But I guess I'm fine with Robin getting it since BL finally becomes the longest running #1 hit this decade. Katy will go on top after the VMAs though.
Really surprised at Gaga debuting at #6. Higher than I've expected. She may even go top 3 the next week.

Actually Robin has next week on the bag. His 12th week at #1 is more easy to predict than his 11th week at #1. Katy's next chance comes after her VMA performance unless Robin a has big increase too.

"Blurred Lines" is the better song, so I'm not upset. Katy will get her chance in the coming weeks anyway.
