They did great though. Black Heart got played on basically every major radio station in the country. The urban stations (Radio 1Xtra and Choice FM) played it, the adult contemporary stations (Heart FM and Radio 2) played it, Radio 1 and Kiss FM played it too.
Waterfalls was a shame though, since it ruined their momentum. Would've been better if Slip was released instead of it.
They just never came across as the type of act that would be able to build up a strong fanbase that could carry them through the periods between the hit songs. The Saturdays also faced the same situation although their label stuck by them and now they're in a far better position than they were for their first few albums.
I have followed the career for a while now, and the biggest mistake was releasing that waterfalls cover like WTF! Why would you even do that. I love TLC and I know their inspired by them but it was a wrong move to pull. After Black Heart they should have went straight to SLIP! Which is one of the best tracks on the album but waterfall made them loose their momentum.
Their album was not that good anyway, I think they need to experiment with r&b/soul and less of that fold sound they have going on (even though it makes them stand out) but sales wise it was not going to take them to high places.
They really should have released their album after "Black Heart". The two album title changes, the cover changes, the track-listing changes. What a mess. And then they released "My Man Music" as their last single.
Let's hope Polydor snatch them up, or maybe they can go back to Simon Cowell...
this...
i dont understand why they didnt just go ahead and release their album when Black Heart blew up.
i know they wanted to add new songs, but they shouldve just went ahead and released it and then done a re-release.
