Ok let me not lie the 3rd generation for introducing an abundant amount of two type Pokemon and allowing Pokemon battle's to rely a little less on the type of the species.
The fifth generation for gameplay/ battling and also wifi battles that no longer solely depend on type casting though they did somewhat fix this in the third and fourth generation games.
