And I don't think Adele is the anti-Gaga, btw. Adele was not built by her label to destroy dance music or Gaga. 19 came out before The Fame, and she has been making soul-pop since the beginning. Her label never marketed her as an "anti-Gaga" like many of those pop-rock girls were modeled as the "anti-Britney" so many years ago. The media tends to pit two females, especially women who are typically unconventional to what's ever going on it pop (Gaga was viewed as "unconventional" at one point), and that's where all of that comes from. Pretty much shows the impact of both ladies because the other girls weren't doing it.

Adele is such a different kind of artist though in a much different time. None of them were ever as popular as Adele and none of them had any real singles success, aside from one or two songs that were moderate hits. Adele has become a pop culture icon and a very highly respected artist that managed to cross genres and gain respect from every side.

Basically, Adele will always be a figure in the music industry, no matter what. Maybe she'll never have another 21, but like I said in another post, it's about maintaining decent success and having clout, not selling 30 million albums every time.

3 years later and she's still making impact on the charts and in the industry in general. Eminem has yet to top his earlier efforts, but noone would say he's an Alanis or Norah or not as popular anymore. Adele will be fine.

And no Adele didn't start the decline of Gaga, it began to happen before that, but Adele's success and approach to her music definitely played a role in furthering it.

They don't have to be similar though. The main point of the thread is because they are so different which is why Adele was that push to change the musical taste of radio which thus affected Gaga's music and how she is received by the GP. Of course Adele is not the only reason. Just read the thread title again, key word being start.

I was going to say yes and voted no. But she is, when everyone thought no one could top Gaga, Adele came up and did way better than Lady Gaga.

Yes. Adele made the public realize that the antics of Gaga and her classmates/followers were silly and unnecessary. If you have talent, then your talent is your gimmick. Controversy for the sake of controversy, tacky outfits, nudity and other forms of distraction become silly.
