I find the meltdowns over Applause annoying.

I mean wasn't this supposed to be every Monster's dream era?

Monsters said: BTW flopped cause of oversaturation, so Gaga did a media blackout plus little promo for ARTPOP

Monsters said: Stop shallowly exploiting the gay community, so Gaga started dropping references to gay culture in her songs and MV's to be more "authentically gay"

Monsters said: BTW was too experimental and unsafe for a lead single, so Gaga made the sorta generic Applause

But even with the changes, she still got enormous backlash over the things everyone wanted her to do.

Yet, she basically alienated herself with the GP and it's obvious that a lot of her stans jumped ship with her last era. A single like Applause isn't something to try to win those people back. If this is the type of music she wants to make and doesn't want to succumb to what will give her a hit, then fine - she can go right ahead and I applaud (no pun intended) her for truly not sacrificing her artistic integrity. But I feel like she still wants to do well on the charts.
