I feel for Mr. Iovine. Interscope will have a difficult time reigning in Gaga's uncontrollable ego. I highly doubt she'll emerge from ARTPOP having learned anything about marketability, and it doesn't seem likely that she'll be willing to adapt her schtick in order to boost her likability. So what can be done with her? She's commited to this preposterous persona, and somehow she's convinced herself that, regardless of how convoluted the act becomes, the theatrics, recycled motifs about art/fame, and pseudo-intellectualism will continue to amuse her audience. But, as we're seeing now, that won't always work. How quickly will she buckle to her label's demands for the Gaga equivalent of a Femme Fatale? How much of a delay for her next album will be caused by stubbornness and label drama? There's no way she'll have the sort of control she's currently enjoying over any future projects.
Nah. As long as she rakes in the millions and gets attention, they've got even bigger cash cows to worry about. LIke Eminem.

It's not a stretch to imagine the people who paid hundreds of dollars to see her would have also bought the album though. She probably would have done around 250k without the bundling (American Life numbers).
As if DJWS and Gaga writing and producing Applause costs Interscope anything but pennies. This is not Katy or Rihanna we are discussing, some people seem quite confused.

Miley has sold so much more than Gaga. Her first two albums sold more than 7 million in the USA alone. & PITUSA is more iconic than anything Gaga has done. One is a superstar and the other was a fad.
