Hm, I suppose that makes sense. But I'm sure the labels are in it with the tour agencies to an extent! I mean, quite frankly, the cost for albums themselves for big artists are in the millions, the advertising/promotional campaigns, and the music videos are all very expensive, I would think that no matter how much the album/singles can sell, they'd still need SOME revenue from touring to even out the expenses.

Britney sells huge amounts of units against the amout of publicity her label does. Beyoncé sells less than Britney with a thousand times more publicity. And publicty is expensive.

Labels make money from tours if the artist is signed to a 360 deal.

Gaga is signed to a 360 deal, so she makes a LOT less money from touring than an artist like Katy does, who is not signed to a 360 deal. Katy also makes way more from merchandising and other sources of revenue. In fact with a 360 deal the label even gets a cut from club appearances.
