Honestly, as much as I like Applause, it's not first single material. I'm a stan, and the verses really ruin the song, so I can only imagine what the general public is thinking.

She used to be the weird girl who everyone wanted to hang out with during her first two eras. But with her last era, she just made herself into the weird girl who had to take her gay best friend to prom. Coming back from that with a single like Applause isn't really helping her at all.
