A bad song is a bad song no matter when it's released. This reminds me of when the Hive blamed everything and everyone under the sun for the failure of RTW except the song's atrocity.

Gaga gets dragged in here for having to do a lot of promo to get her singles into the Top 5 on iTunes.

She literally has NO promo besides an iTunes banner. Katy has promo everywhere, props to Capital and Katy's team for that though.

Why does anyone need to be "hyped" to like a song

If anything, hype is something she needs less of, because all the overhyping and overexposure during BTW era with no good music to back it up seriously damaged her brand.

And now that she is serving something worse than any of BTW singles as her lead single for a new era, "hype" is the last thing she needs.
