Because when your fans hype you up to be the be all and end all of pop music, being stuck at #2 (or lower) in nearly every major music market simply doesn't cut the mustard.

I think her fans had a lot to do with it. Rushing into threads saying that Katy would be toast in the US once Gaga rush released her single. Now that it's stuck at #2 on US iTunes, people are genuinely shocked (or trolling ) because she couldn't take out her "lessor" in the States.
WW, yes, Gaga is doing amazing, and I don't think anyone should take away from that (or Katy, who also is doing well WW).
Her annoying fanbase claiming her immense global power and Queen of Pop when she's being beaten by an alleged local act. She herself even gloats about clocking haters. The backfire is entertaining
Last time she said her single is next "I Will Survive" and will change the course of music, and she called HER OWN album the album of the decade blah blah. Now she calls her new album ARTPOP and acts like she owns the pop wprld and what not. And now she is looking desperate. Those tweets? Embarassing... Her fans also add the fuel to the fire
