Obamacare causing multiple job losses
Quote:
Employers around the country, from fast-food franchises to colleges, have told NBC News that they will be cutting workers’ hours below 30 a week because they can’t afford to offer the health insurance mandated by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
“To tell somebody that you’ve got to decrease their hours because of a law passed in Washington is very frustrating to me,” said Loren Goodridge, who owns 21 Subway franchises, including a restaurant in Kennebunk. “I know the impact I’m having on some of my employees.”
Goodridge said he’s cutting the hours of 50 workers to no more than 29 a week so he won’t trigger the provision in the new health care law that requires employers to offer coverage to employees who work 30 hours or more per week. The provision takes effect in 16 months.
Luke Perfect, who has worked at Goodridge’s Kennebunk Subway for more than a decade, said it was “horrible” to learn he was among the employees whose hours would be limited, and that it would be a financial hardship. “I’m barely scraping by with overtime,” he said.
"It IS happening," insisted Joseph Hansen, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers union, which has 1.2 million members. "Wait a year. You'll see tremendous impact as workers have their hours reduced and their incomes reduced. The facts are already starting to show up. Their statistics, I think, are a little behind the time."
In a letter to Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill, Hansen joined other labor chieftains in warning that the ACA as presently written could “destroy the foundation of the 40-hour work week that is the backbone of the middle class.”
NBC News spoke with almost 20 small businesses and other entities from Maine to California, and almost all said that because of the new law they’d be cutting back hours for some employees – an unintended consequence of the new law.

Not content with ruining the lives of MILLIONS of families in Iraq and Afghanistan, now President Obama is effectively leaving tens of thousands of hard-working, Americans homeless and penniless.

Free health care schemes usually have drawbacks in early stage. It's the price you have to pay and manage.

This is why you think stuff like this thoroughly before implementing.

!!! It happened in other countries aswell. The sad thing is that it took so long for the US to get with the program and it's even sadder that they don't see it as a good thing. It's sad for those losing their jobs though.

Wait till Republican wins the election and see if they dare enough to unplug the scheme.

If you actually read the article, you'll see that the employers are doing this by choice, they won't give their employees more than 29 hours a week, so as to avoid being mandated to provide them health insurance (which that clause doesn't even kick in for another 16 months, so...). So, the companies, not Obamacare, are the cause of the loss of hours, just because they don't want to be decent human beings and give their employees healthcare. I bet for most of the workers it's their only job, and their only real opportunity to get decent healthcare, but the bosses care more about the pennies saved, than treating their employees the right way.

How is this the companies fault? Obama should have left the companies out of it, but he just hates rich people so he thought he would hit em where it hurts. This impacts more than the big bad corporations that Obama and the democrats have been after since his election. Small businesses are also having a hard time being able to afford the Obamacare. Under the law if a company has more than 99 employees, correct me if I'm wrong on that amount as I'm sure some of you will, they MUST provide healthcare if the employee is fulltime. It does not make it any cheaper, just forces people to buy it or pay a fine. It's been said since 2010 that this law was bad and now a record number of Americans are against it. No poll has Obamacare being seen as favorable by a majority of Americans. Americans don't like it, scrap it.

At Menards, the adult employees who work part time are still getting their 35 hours a week. I get 25 during the year. Some companies are just plain stupid.

But it's not free nor is it universal health care. People keep forgetting the House version that included the public option never passed. The Senate one did which was more conservative.

*Stupid conservatives fire employees and cut their hours to try to fake proof that Obamacare is horrible.*
^^^
Should have been the thread title.
There is ZERO evidence to suggest that this is a widespread occurrence. Employers who do do this are running the risk of losing their best employees to the 95% of businesses who are not cutting hours over Obamacare.

Right. Let's blame the President because these companies want to be cheap and not allow their employees to have adequate health care.
The Republicans have no solution or alternative to fix or replace the law should they repeal it. It's sad really. Obamacare can be fixed if these twats took their asses off their backs and worked together for the betterment of this country.
Most of the provisions included in the Bill, such as the employer mandate, were Republican ideas. If a Republican president came up with this law, there would be no GOP opposition.
It's sad to see what this once great party has become. It's why I only vote for GOP on a state level...and only those without tea party ties.

I agree with this too.Except for the state level part since for the most part, my state is being run by flaming IDIOTS
