Applause is 7/10. It's very good when you look at it as an album track. But as a lead single...
Lead singles should have a bigger sound and that's where Applause falls short at. There's nothing memorable about it. That's why I doubt it's going to do much in the long run. Too bad for her, because it's much better and enjoyable than Born This Way.

To that Deadney stan. I would like to have a conversation with y'all, but my brain can't possibly convert to that parallel universe y'all live in.

Doesn't really matter, I'm a stan of neither

!!!. The desperation to discredit her success. Gaga thrives on the idea of being on top, why would she intentionally handicap herself and release at the same time as Katy. The fact remains that if she stuck with the original date it would've be significantly easier to go #1.

i'll wait for a paragraph-long post about her lack of promotion as if that was the main issue

Her biggest hits from most of her albums (Britney, In the Zone, Blackout, Circus) had nothing to do with Max Martin or Dr. Luke

I remember he relentlessly stalked me for a week because one of the Monsters I follow + follows me back re-tweeted me saying "Die Young" was better than any song in Gags' discography (sarcasm) and he flipped ****, blocked me, unblocked me to tweet me, blocked me again, and repeated that process a handful of times.
He's almost as bad as AMENHOOKER.

Because she thought she would easily go #1 It's beyond obvious. She just completely overestimated her popularity and fanbase in America.

His work is very unremarkable. He's slayed some songs but not consistently like Space Cowboy.

interesting
cause as I remember everyone, especially the little suicidals, were going around yesterday trying to belittle Katy's past achievements and stating that Gaga's gonna run circles around Katy's sales and she will be #1 as soon as the sun starts rising
well obviously that didn't happen for some weird reason

Britney had moderate hits. Circus had Womanizer (moderate hit), and same goes for everything on Blackout. Her biggest hits/recent hits have relied on those two producers (BOMT and OIDIA are probably her biggest hits aside from Toxic - the rest were moderate).

Womanizer wasn't a moderate hit, lol. It was her last truly "big" moment, music-wise, in her career.
It sold something like 6M copies WW too. It was a massive hit.

It's crazy how much I used to love Gags. But now she thinks she is invincible, with arguably the worst lead single of her career. I hope the Brit Army is accepting permanent applications and they don't mind me being a Beyhive.

Tha problem with GaGa is her damn ego. Her and her tea thinks her star power is so big that she can release any piece of **** and it'll blow up and **** on tha charts. Only did her and Interscope know...
You would have thought they learned their damn lesson after tha travesty that is Born This Way

Pop program directors that are spinning both songs are praising each, although a sample of PDs polled reveals a prediction for greater long-term success for "Roar."
"Both songs have been well-received by our audience, but when it comes to social media, Perry’s 'Roar' has garnered more positive response," says Chase Murphy, PD of KXXM San Antonio. "I think, because of its pop appeal and texture, 'Roar' will probably be embraced by more formats and will eventually be heralded as a bigger song than 'Applause'."
"So far, listeners have favored the Katy track more, but both songs are getting great reaction," KHOP Stockton, Calif., PD MoJoe Roberts largely echoes. "I think the message in 'Roar' is connecting and resonating more with our female listeners."
