Probably, but that is part of what has made her so successful.

it's part of the business, she HAS to sell her music.

Of course. She's an 'it' girl and she's at her prime. I would as well. So would you. And so do/did other pop girls.

Desperate has a negative connotation, but we know you wanted to shade so...


To answer the question though, I would say no. Is she concerned with the charts? Absolutely, as is every other pop star who experiences success.

Desperate would be planning your single release around the most televised event in the nation, which you happen to be headlining, in an attempt to prevent the inevitable.

Not everyone, some musicians give more importance to their actual music than $$.

Duh.

She may present herself as more alternative than the other popstars, but at the end of the day, she's a pop singer on a major label. She has to push records and I think she herself wants to as well. Especially after the second half of the BTW era, I think she wants to make Applause a huge hit. And I don't blame her.

I guess so but at least she cares.

HOWEVER, the responses here would be a comple 180 had it been a different artist doing it. Just make use of the recently functionable search button and look up all the previous Bieber/Miley etc threads where the whole of ATRL dragged them for doing the same. Perks of being a big pop girl.

Maybe it's the internet era, I don't remember artists from the past beging their fans "to destroy" music stores or to request radio stations to play their songs.

Ummmm.... and how is that any different than planning a release around the VMA's or the Grammys like Gaga, Katy, etc has and is?

Don't even go there. Most big name artists use big platforms to begin their new eras.

But label, PR, and managers can do that. I just find it a little pathetic that popstars themselves have to do it.

I'm not going to lie, I was inspired by her tweet and given that I'm Madonna fan, I can see why some of you see this thread as shade.
