I believe the explanation of the reconciliation of the old and New Testament is in the book of Ephesians. I remember reading something specifically about this a few months back in my bible. I need to go back and check. But either way, all of the Ten Commandments are restated in some way in the New Testament whereas many of the rituals from the Old Testament are said to be unecessary and even sacrilegious by New Testament standards. I remember I got bored at a camp once and I read the Book of Revelation for entertainment. Even though everyone is still trying to make sense of it, it makes the most sense if you take everything literally rather than look for meanings within each part of it.
