Think about it. alot of the popular artists that we hear about everyday like Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, and even Britney...even though their music is so hyped and it would seem like they all have alot of fans from forums and stuff, yet their albums never really do like phenomenally amazing while people like Carrie Underwood or Daughtry or Nickelback who nobody really cares about and who dont seem like they have many fans always have big big numbers.

when you look at Artist Official Topics like the Britney/Christina/Avril/Nelly ones, they get alot of talk but their sales pale in comparison to people like Carrie.

WHY.

Because we're the minority, most of the people don't have enough curiosity to explore the Internet.

Well if the artist is doing "phenomenally" then doesn't that mean someone cares about them? I don't understand what you're trying to state here. Unless you're talking about why ATRL doesn't care about them.

I'm not a fan of any of the 3 (maybe a little bit Daughtry) but reguardless how could you say they don't have any fans. I'd say Carrie Underwood has more fans than Nelly and Rihanna and probably comes close if not beats the others on your list. Same goes for Daughtry. Nickelback has been around for a long time and has a lot of fans too.

You are on to something here. Almost no one hates Carrie or Daughtry. Britney has a lot of huge fans but also a lot of "haters" which include me and half of ATRL. So therefore more people are likely to buy Carrie or Daughtry's album.

I agree with Athens and Angelo, there are more older people than younger people. (Also remember the very young market that has pester power over parents/guardians which is why kiddie songs tend to do well over Xmas.)

Many people in the approx 16-26 market seem to forget that music and the charts aren't all about them, probably because a huge chunk of money is spent on marketing to them and their interests. Older people = Age + more independent spending power. However, also less likely to spend lots due to other obligations which is why glamorous marketing is aimed at younger people. But older people also tend to know what they like and bands/artists that cater to older audiences could benefit from more solid fan bases whose interest doesn't veer off depending on trends and who apparantly still buy more tangible music formats over downloading.

I think the artists the OP was saying do well sales-wise is because that tends to be an older audience listening to them (and has $ and "unaccustomed" to d/ling on the internet), while its a younger teen audience listening to Brit and Avril (who tend to just d/l the album for free rather than go pay for it).

However I think Nelly Furtado sell a lot too.
Whatever I go people play her album everywhere here in Brazil or other countries.
Nickelback not much. And I've never heard of Carie Undwood before.
