I think it has more chance at breaking Mariah's run at #1 than outdoing her AI record. Blurred Lines is already on week 5 at #1 and its so far away of any competition, and the gap is only going to increase even more next week. 10+ weeks seems a certainty now, so it should at least break Rihanna's record from this decade.
If it's a shocking block ala "Boyfriend," imagine the threads that will follow --
"Is Blurred Lines the song of our generation?"
"Is Blurred Lines iconic?"
"Will Gaga ever have a song as big as Blurred Lines in the US?"
"Has Gaga faded?"
Eh. I have a feeling Gaga is going to get blocked, anyway. It will depend on how Interscope decides to move forward with Robin's album release week and beyond.
Edit: It doesn't even matter that much in the long run.
The song is overrated and I'm sad to see Robin go Pop for a radio hit when he's been adamantly saying he would never do it.
He will break Mariah's record, but Mariah will still have the record for having the most radio impressions by a solo artist (no collaboration), and also for having the biggest radio impressions gap between her No 1 hit and the No 2 song
