It's not really a lie. Like 95% of the people who bought his music or even listened to it before Blurred Lines were black, he didn't have a large white audience at all, now people of all races listen to him.
Its not about claiming anybody its just that he's released a song with wider commercial appeal. I dont understand the concept of white people claiming somebody who is clearly white. If he were mixed race it may make some sense. This is simply about the music and nothing to do with color. Europeans dont care what color he is and probably never even knew him before this.
More like check your ego first before it falls flat to earth. I love me some Robin Thicke but that's not the way to go and Blurred Lines isn't really something that he should be proud of besides its commercial success.
You obviously didn't read the article, he's happy for the success but he's just interested in making good music. So what's there to not agree about, he's not some malleable pop artist or politician.
I was mainly talking about the "claiming". People don't claim him. People "claimed" the song.
