Okay I think this will be my last post about this because I'm getting tired of explaining.
Yes, it is likely should would have been a massive flop. But it's also likely that she would have been a success, and I think that is the more likely option. Here's why.
-Leann Rimes had massive success in the late 1990s, being a young country star, just like Taylor
-Country as a genre was having a heyday
-The competition of Britney, Jessica and Mandy, etc. wouldn't really have been that intense considering they were making bubblegum pop, and Taylor would be making country-pop. This being a mix of two popular genres would likely produce good sales
-If you know anything about marketing, you'd know that competition actually drives sales. Do you think either Kanye or 50 Cent would have sold as much as they did that year they released albums the same date? There's also a reason why fast food chains like to open restaurants as close to their competition as possible, not in their own unique area.
That said, you're all very right. It is entirely possible that she wouldn't have been successful. This is all speculation, all we can do is weigh the facts and decide to believe one thing or the other. But I'll say that Britney would still be the Princess of Pop even if Taylor was a huge success.
