People are far simpler than that when I look at an Asian person walking down the sidewalk, I'm not going to take time out of my thoughts to wonder what he's like as an individual I'll just assume he's like the stereotypical Asian.
It's built into our survival instincts When you look at a tiger growling in front of you or a shark swimming under you, do you wonder whether it's a nice tiger/shark? Or does instinct tell you it's dangerous
So if pop culture and the media shows us image after image of black men robbing, thieving, and murdering, do you honestly think the average person, who has been conditioned to associate these stereotypes with black people, is going to think: "Oh, I wonder whether he's a nice kid? Maybe I should talk to him?" Or do you think they take one look at the saggy pants, the hoodie, and the grills, and they picture every nasty mug shot and criminal they've seen on TV

although Tigers are vicious as being half tiger and half black I can speak on this...we Tigers are vicious
But again...I as a black person shouldn't need to dress in a suit and tie just to be accepted...I don't dress like a hoodlum either but I could be wearing a jeans pants and a t-shirt and still be looked upon as a threat

I can't @ you comparing wild cats to black people
Why would you assume a tiger is kind and friendly, if it's in their nature eat meat in an nondiscriminatory manner? Are you trying to say that it's in the black mans nature to kill & steal?

Yes, you are entitled to dress however you like. but stereotypes exist because it makes processing the world easier for our tiny self-interested brains.

why are people hating on him for speaking the truth.
If you think about it, model minorities like the Asians currently, and the Jewish and the Irish in the past, managed to break ahead and get to the top of the food chain by blending in and working hard. If there was really so much "white power" stuff, you wouldn't have Asian people being the highest earning race in America. And you wouldn't have any successful black people at all.
|
This! it's the same for any race. If you dress nicely and work hard you will go far. If you don't you won't be taken seriously. It may be sad but how you present yourself does matter.

I'm saying that people have stereotypes because it makes the World easier Tiger = dangerous means you run away when you see a tiger = you live. With the million things we have to do and think about everyday, our brains naturally simplify the World for us. A flower smells nice. A cake looks delicious. That flower may smell like doodoo and that cake might contain salt, but not having to stop and wonder about it saves us a lot of trouble

I don't know? Maybe because many black children grow up in fatherless families? Maybe because maybe black mothers are under the age of 20, and leave their children with their grandmothers? Maybe because MIDDLE SCHOOL drop out rates in 90+% black urban neighborhoods is as high as 60% or 70%? Maybe because they predominantly choose blue collar jobs which are easily displaceable (factory work, service jobs, etc), and when the economy bottoms out, they are the first to lose their jobs? Maybe after all of this is said and done, and they have earned the least money, so they can only afford the poor neighborhoods, their collective tax dollars are then not enough to hire the best teachers and provide the best educations for their children?
And then the cycle rinses, washes, and repeats.

You're a god damned racist.
Excuses.
Popular culture is racist. That is certainly not Black people's fault.

Popular culture is racist. That is certainly not Black people's fault. It needs to be changed. American Popular culture is mostly White anyway.
|
It's normal human behavior I highly doubt you walk around a crowded city all day, and don't shuffle away a little when some person who dresses like a homeless person approaches you the fact isn't anything to do with race. It's to do with perception. If you perceive a person, animal, or object to be dangerous, your instincts kick in nobody got time to psychoanalyze every person to figure out whether they are safe to talk to or fun to talk to etc

Why the hell are you defending stereotypes? They make the world easier. Please. How is that a reasonable justification at all. You just sound racist.

Im saying:
Not all tigers will eat people. They would prefer a gazelle.
But the rare instances where tigers kill people leads to media frenzy.
Meaning we, the people who absorb media, assume tigers are dangerous to human beings.
Meaning the next time we see a tiger, we assume it will kill us.
Same with black men.
Not all black men, thieve, rob, or kill.
But the instances that they do are broadcast far and wide and repeated over and over.
meaning we, the people who absorb the media, assume black men are all dangerous and criminals.
meaning the next time we see a black man, we watch out

I'm not defending stereotypes because I don't need to. It's natural instinct to categorize the World. Do you have to think about bringing an umbrella when it's raining? No, because you are conditioned to want to stay dry. Do you have to think about cookies being delicious when you see them? No, because after we experience it, our brains lock in the memory of the flavor, smell, and texture. It's not the brains fault that it stores all this data.

My life should not be endangered because of someone's uninformed perception of me. THUGS are scary. Fine! I admit that. BLACK PEOPLE are NOT ALL scary. Know that. Black people are NOT targeted because some look like thugs. They are targeted because they are BLACK. A change in attire or a dissociation with thugs will do NOTHING to stop a hate crime. If a racist wants to kill me, he will kill me and find a way to wiggle his way out of punishment.

Sad. I feel like you are willfully being ignorant. If you think that it was by choice and want, that black people decided to create a cycle and culture that was detrimental to themselves, you are not that clever. Black people didn't just wake up one day and say "hey lets not take care of our children, this will help us progress". Everything there is to black culture stemmed out of oppression, slavery and poverty, and once you finally learn that, you will have a better perspective on things. You can't just look at instances in isolation and say "this is the absolute cause".

I'm not condoning or laughing at this. I'm simply telling you why. There are solutions, but these are the main problems, along with drugs.
