The difference with Katy is that her label is responsible, while in Gaga's case it was solely the fault of a third party retailer. Even then I haven't been one to criticize discounts - if Katy plays the chart game better than the other girls, more power to her! And the same goes for Gaga.

Unless she actually sells 1 million copies of her ALBUM at FULL PRICE without any exceptions or tricks it's not believable. It wont happen though.

The Fame Monster debuted with only like 300k total combining the double disc and the solo set after her massive Fame era and the smash Bad Romance IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON so I don't think it's ridiculous for people to discredit BTW's ridiculous tactics. Even Billboard had to address that mess.

That doesn't mean it will be the norm for Gaga to be discredited.

It wasn't her choice, since it's pretty clear by now that Amazon bought the copies at full-price and then sold them at a discount to promote their music service, which most of you didn't know it existed until then. And are you really comparing TF/TFM debut numbers with BTW? She hadn't set herself as a massive force by then.

And sadly, Gaga will be discredited by something if she opens up with +1M. It's common sense.

True. I like Gaga, so for me it's more of a respect thing. As Apollo said, it probably was Amazon or whoever, but it still reflects on Gaga and I just think it would have been much more cool for her legacy if the deal never happened.

Eh. In the end most people don't care about the deal anyway outside the pop music fandom. It won't hurt her too much in my opinion. Nobody remembers things like Mariah Carey discounting physical copies by large amounts to get some of her #1 hits outside the pop fandom.

I don't think it will hit +1M either. Gaga or her team will have to make up other plans to get her a high opening week. I don't doubt her power but it will be in an unfair way, just like the 99c manipulated everything. It's okay to sell a song for that price but an album?
