Isn't it obvious?

The app won't count as a sale itself, seeing as it's not the album. If they download the album however, through the app or elsewhere, then a sale will be counted.

In all honesty, I took a quick read over the tumblr link and I highly doubt each song separately will be reported/counted as one album sold, this is pure scam, and if Billboard/SoundScan can't properly track it, I doubt they will even be included...

If the albums are paid for, full price or SLIGHTLY discounted, via the app then they should count. That would no different than buying a digital copy.

If the files are made available through the app at a price higher than the minimum to chart, why WOULDN'T it count as an album sale? Seems pretty simple to me. I mean, if the app was priced at 9.99 and by downloading the app you got the album inside, that too should count.

All apps I've had from iTunes, when you make an In-App purchase you're directed to the App Store (when it's another app or a song, for instace), so this will probably be the case here, meaning iTunes will actually have register of all these sales...
