DIL is at 9M tops. 4.9M in the US, under 2M in Europe, and bits and pieces elsewhere.

10 New songs and a new lead single. A heavily promoted rerelease prerelease then?
The Complete Experience is actually being counted as a compilation album

Katys label was really smart to keep going with that album and milk it for filth, that is really the smart route when you want to sell an album from an artist like Katy, MAKE people want it.
20/20 is already done single wise right? I don't see him selling 3 million more copies of it WW.

For as much as she milked it (2 years, movie, re-release, hit after hit), it's kind of pathetic that she didn't outsell Loud or BTW. Loud and BTW's promotion lasted only 6 months each. Can you imagine how much better Rihanna's sales would be if her eras were that long? Rihanna's eras are always aborted after the 2nd single.

TD opened with 192K with two big hits and a ton of promo.
Modern Vampires of the City opened with 134K with no hits and not much promo besides SNL.
Arcade Fire have a much larger fanbase and lot more visibility than Vampire Weekend.
Will be interesting... I expect Arcade Fire to open with ~250K. The Suburbs opened with 156K and the band had a LOT less presence then.
|
It's gonna be close but I think Katy will take it. Her promo will be insane and she's a bigger star than when she released TD.

In the end, Teenage Dream as an era was more successful than any era from Rihanna.

Probably, he released just two singles from part I.

What a monumental flop. The most-promoted album ever, and these are her results.

Teenage Dream has sold closer to 6.5 million by now. This is known.

HIStory is the most promoted album ever. Again a two year long singles campaign, and they had damn status of MJ in cities around the world, that multi million TV spot with an army and **** that got so much controversy, HUGE music videos including the most expensive one of all-time, performances all around the world for most of the singles. Marketing for albums int he 90s was much bigger.

Yes, she will.
Easily.
The GP (and academy voting) don't see her as a Nick/Disney star. They see her as a brand new artist.

Not even close. Teenage Dream has been promoted so much/frequently and in so many different ways, that you probably only remember 10% of the promo, and that 10% is still more than every album ever.

The only market LOUD sold more than TD by a significant number is the UK, and that's by about 700k.
Teenage Dream sold over a million more than LOUD in the US.
There is no way that album sold more than TD.

DiL is past 10m.
Fact.
6M is amazing numbers for what is effectively a singles artist.
None of our faves could get 6 #1s off one album, Katy Perry couldn't sell 6m with a normal length era.
Works both ways.

Probably because ticket prices were low. She came to my college and I knew many people that bought tickets ranging between $30-$50.
