They want to know if it can run Netflix or if it can play music,” continued Larson-Green, “By asking these simple questions, we gain an understanding of what the consumer wants and we need to respond to these demands. The Xbox One can be used to watch television, but can it be used for more?”

She continued the discussion by opening it up to a question and answer session with the developers. One developer asked Larson-Green what she thinks the future of video game consoles will be. She responded:

The term “video game console” will soon become a misnomer as the “video game” portion becomes obsolete. In the future, when people think about a console, they will think about an all-in-one device much like the Xbox One. I can imagine something similar to the Xbox One being the most common device used to access the internet or watch a movie.

When asked if she realized she was just simply describing a computer, Larson-Green responded, “They are fundamentally different. You use a mouse and keyboard with a computer. You use a controller with a video game console.”

I get where they're coming from, and it would be a good strategy if it weren't that out there. They're just alienating gamers. They should just promote both the gaming part and the multimedia type equally.

It's true, but most of us will disagree because we like to use laptops or desktops for most our things and we can do everything online. Personally, I'd much prefer a system that can do a heap of things like all my tv, music, movies that's not my laptop. An entertainment system. It's just so much better than a console based on games alone, especially cause the only time I turn on my 360 these days is to watch things on Netflix or chat to friends (and on the One I can use Skype, correct?). They give more, so why complain? It's gonna run games just like it would if it didn't have all these extra features.
