I know it sold 5.5 million copies worldwide since 2010 but that's very average. (it was also rereleased with new music)



and if it wasn't for Itunes discounts and her singles being remixed she wouldn't have 5 #1 singles (The King Of Pop didn't have to slash prices and remix songs to get his record.)

The thing is that there's such thing as the reality and the perception of it which can differ in many opportunities.

Getting 5 #1 singles from TD is the only thing impressive about that era or even Katy herself, and as you said, that probably wouldn't have happened without multiple remixes and not selling the singles at full price.

well it's impressive considering she overshadowed all of her contemporaries and she came out of nowhere with a hit album when everyone expected her to flop.

and i wouldn't call the first 3 #1's which had no remix or discount to be not impressive considering your fave has yet to reach top 10 despite having the same (or even more promo) than some of the singles got (no hate)

It sold 6 million+.

And five #1 singles will always be extremely impressive, considering all of them were multi-week #1's that sold over 4m copies (TGIF is only 100k away I believe) and were all #1 on Pop Songs.

When you look at the sheer amount of exposure and people she reached thats when TD really impresses. She broke her own radio spin records, had 8 multiplatinum singles, had a 98% sold out tour, sold 80 mil records (inclu. OOTB) and had a 3D movie just to top it all off. Katy was everywhere and she represented the american face of pop music worldwide in 2010-2012.

Also, 6.5 mil is great in this day and age when pop girls are struggling to get a few million WW.

Pretty much. 2 years of promo and countless #1 hits and TD only sold 5.5 million. The kats overestimate her. Prism will not be another TD.

ET Remix was released as the single from the very beginning. And had massive airplay + the 'original' song sold well. Last Friday Night topped iTunes and stayed for weeks at #2 on the Hot 100, also had massive airplay. The remix sold 25.000 copies, i mean, nothing. And The One That Got Away remix didn't helped it's chart run, so your argument is invalid.

Her single sales are hugely impressive. The point for the remixes was to give the song a fresh new take for people who had already heard the songs already. LFN remix sales did not count to the first week it went number one. Technically ET is the only one from the 5 number ones with a "last minute remix" which was planned months before its collaboration. LFN actually went number one with only a discount.

Also, it is pertinent to understand TD was never destined for Adele type success. It opened with a pretty mediocre 192k but went on to sell over 2 mill. Katy has amazing longevity and power. If you can't see how phenomenal the TD record was for her you are delusional.

And of course, there is always a sense of relativity. She outshone the other "A-list, WW, talented" pop superstars and their eras. That says a lot. Reality checks are needed.

Cause she's a single artist.

Because she's a legend! 8 Top 3 hits including 6 #1s from ONE album! Not to mention the album has sold 6+ million

Where is it written that a #1 song must sell albums? If that's the case, wouldn't Bad be THE best-selling album of all time?

Also more number ones does not equal tons of album sales. That is not a fact. just look at Michaels Bad. 5 number ones and yet it's not the best selling album of all time.

If a album has 5 #1 singles I expect it to sell more than 5 million copies in 3 years.

I don't think anyone is saying a number one song HAS to sell albums, but Katy's album to single sales ratio is embarrassing.
