I hope by the end of the year WP gets some solid updates for the Marketplace. My iPhone is so boring right now. But I am really loving the fantastic battery life.

I just sent a support email to Instagram playing stupid asking them why most my photos disappeared

I wrote an essay schooling everyone dissing Wp8 but had to delete it because not even I wanted to re-read that ish.
People - Wp8 is a highly threatening system. It's already the 3rd most popular mobile OS and it came out 8 months ago. The app store has almost 200k apps already - and it's only 8 months in. Android and iPhone grew at exponentially slower rates. Microsoft seems to be slow - but if you think about it, GRD2 comes out within the next month. GRD3 comes out in the 4th quarter, and Windows 8.1 comes out early 2014. GRD2, arguably the SMALLEST update, is going to provide FM Radio support, Data Sense, glance/hover clock, double tap to wake, the infamous Nokia time standby screen, a bunch of under the hood updates and practically a new camera. Did you expect to have a phone with evolving features?
You have a device that keeps transforming. These devices will be upgradeable to the next mobile operating system launching 2015.
Just like back in the day when Apple's main selling point (for their OS X) was "we're faster and everything 'just works'" - That's W8 now. The bliss of being a new system with a fresh market and a fresh look w/ low required specs. People are slowly becoming more comfortable with 8 - in mobile OS in particular, Windows Phone 6 was a disaster, 7 was barely supported - BUT it's slowly happening as more people own a Windows phone. Everyone that I've showed my phone to has pretty much said ".. ok, this thing is actually great". I've been doing everything they've been doing with slightly different apps - I honestly am not missing anything (Except instance right now, hah...) It's all about the available apps - once they get the main apps, what then? You think it's going to be that hard to get the apps they need? Microsoft announced they would get all the apps the people need by the end of the year. Even though that IS too long - keep in mind that they kept their word about getting the appstore to 100k. I believe them.
Noka itself has 10 lines of phones out right now. Us spoiled North Americans aren't seeing the plans here - it's not about the flagships. It's about the low/mid end that are AMAZING, AMAZING devices for the price. No one is beating them in that market. No one. iPhone is desperately trying to get into that market and their brand will take a hit - they either have to showcase that the iOS6/7 can run on a basic phone/you've been paying for the housing this whole time OR they have to sacrifice some hardware and that will frustrate people because they'd be like "why isn't this working perfectly now". Android simply doesn't provide good enough hardware to keep up with their app market in the low/mid end device segment. Unless the flagships become more available to the low/mid market or companies switch to higher specs, they're at risk of being flooded out too.
They are experts at positioning themselves in the low/mid end market. That's where they're going to explode. The rest will follow.
When Apple bought HotSpot last week, they immediately discontinued service to Wp8 the same day. The app stopped working and would redirect you to the website. Google only recently agreed to help Microsoft make a Youtube app (because their first attempt pissed them off due to downloadable videos). Instagram DOES NOT like any other system than Apple. It took them 2 years just to provide support to Android.
Windows Phone 8 is just beginning to build it's foundation. Other operating systems are aware that it is a major threat to have them thrive especially when 80% of the computer market operates off of Windows XP/7. How many of you have Xboxes in your homes? Give it a few years. iPhone is getting stale and Android is heading toward a Windows Vista-sized train wreck due to their mess of an appstore/low-mid end phone specs. Blackberry is a nonfactor. They won't be #1 or #2 anytime soon - but their market share WILL continue to grow.
(Also Nokia should stop complaining and make more Nokia exclusive apps, I haven't seen any new Nokia apps for a while now)

Microsoft is a mess. It's Nokia's own fault for getting into bed with them. It took them 1340983912 years to come out with new Internet Explorer while Google has released double the amounts of new Chromes in just 3 years

I decided I'm getting the 925 but MS better get it together.
I just can't leave. I love the OS.
__
at Instagram. Are they doing the same thing with ALL 3rd party apps?

They're only targeting Instance. Instagraph and Hipstamatic still work.

Gerl. Internet Explorer gets constant updates. But who the **** cares tho? Everybody uses Chrome or Firefox. Only lazy people get stuck with Internet Explorer.

You made the right choice. Nokia is worth buying itself. The OS is amazing. Looks really really good but Nokia is just on a league of it's own. The features are actually useful and not bloatware.

How on Earth does Windows Phone 8 the operating system suck? Explain. It's a DIFFERENT operating system, it is not supposed to be the exact same as Android/iOS. The system itself is pretty airtight. If you complain about something like "not having a notification centre" you missed the point of Metro and the entire idea of having a different OS. The system is great. Not perfect, but before all the updates coming, it's still doing damn good.
I mean - Jellybean takes up 6 gb of space. if you get an S4, Jellybean combined with Samsung's bloatware takes up 8.8 GB of space out of the box - on a 16 gb device. That is *crazy*. Windows phone takes less than 2gb.
It has the best multitasking system on the market & "tombstoning" apps. The app market could use a lot of work - but that's not part of the system. I'd like to know where the operating system itself fails you. It's not perfect and could use some upgrades but what other operating system (not brand) has ever come out with Bluetooth text messaging out of the box? Custom ringtones? Even little basic things such as the keyboard and autocorrect are far better than Android/iOS's defaults. Compared to Android and iOS, the battery life is vastly superior. Skydrive/cloud service out of the box? Kids corner? Customizable lock screens that update daily to different high res pictures automatically without separate apps? Xbox Live integration for gamers? People hub? 99% of Games in the market are designed to work with less than 512kb of RAM. This is unheard of on Android due to the extreme inefficiency of the OS. On the first version of the operating system with 3 scheduled major updates coming up (one of which includes a damn notification centre).
I won't even get into how much better C/C++ support makes Windows phone way better platform than Android. If you want an intense gaming experience, Windows Phone will be the one to go to.
So what is it?

That's not that hard of a feat. They havent even reached 10% yet and all they had to do was take down Blackberry. WP may become more successful later but Android is already very well known. The ad power of all of those Android companies + Verizon/AT&T/Sprint + brand loyalty isnt going to make many people switch. Growth has slowed because Android and iOS are both damn near 1 billion sales. No one knows the future but unless Google somehow ****s up, I dont see WP taking its spot

Yeah, at the end I said I doubt they'd take anyone's spot, but that their market share will continue to grow. I think Android is going to take over iPhone's spot within 2 years (in the US, since that's the only place they're more popular) and Wp8 is just going to eat a little bit of their shares + be a great entry level phone for people still using "feature phones". It will be a solid contender by the end of maybe.. 2014/2015, just like Blackberry a few years ago. But I highly doubt they'll take the top two spots, not unless something radical happens. Never know though - in 2007/08 when everyone and their mother had a Blackberry (ok, Canadian here, so we were all obsessed with BBM, might not be the same elsewhere) I would have never, ever believed they'd be as screwed as they are now less than 5 years later.

BUT,
They need better apps. Period. I'm upgrading this week and idk if I want the Lumia 925 or the iPhone 5. I might get the iPhone 5 then Jump to a new Nokia phone when Windows gets their **** together.
|
I had to make this same choice last week and I went with the iPhone 5. I love MS, Nokia, and WP, but I've been screwed over too many times. I used to have a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone, then they completely dropped support for that. Then I was one of the early adopters with WP7 and they left a bad taste in my mouth when they left it behind. Then I said goodbye when my phone wasn't eligible for WP7.5.
I hope they can rise up because competition benefits consumers. But for now, they need to make major improvements to the app aspect of the OS before I consider going back..

Ironically, this is why I chose to adopt Wp8 - I figured they couldn't possibly screw everyone over AGAIN, lol. They got soo much bad press over dropping support for 7. Apparently all Wp8 phones will be able to upgrade to 9, but even if they're lying again it's ok because my contract will be done by then. I still feel bad for the people who have Windows Phone 7 - I feel like every single time I see a new app out for Windows Phone 8, people on 7 have been left behind .

The problem isnt Microsoft or Nokia, its that they where too late in embracing this mobile revolution. therefor no matter how awesome the product is, it will be inferior (even if its not) in the install base of android and ios users.
