Homophobia and racism were more prominent back then so no.

That has nothing to do with the question.
And honestly, racism hasn't progressed much since the 80s as much as we'd like to think or as the media portrays.
Anyways, I don't know if people were nicer, but in the past people weren't as stressed because the economy was more stable and they weren't bombarded with information on a consistent basis as we are today. Some of you don't realize the cognitive effects associated with heavy internet usage and the way it affects the dopamine receptors in the brain.
Our human minds aren't designed to handle the amount of media being thrown our way at the rate is today, hence, people are more depressed and suffer from anxiety. More and more children are being diagnosed with attention disorders as internet is became so easily accessible from phones, etc. and it's quite concerning.
So you could likely wager that since people were less stressed back then = more relaxed/happy = nicer?
