Discussion: Witches and Witchcraft

I've always been fascinated by witches and today I found myself thinking if all that stuff might be real though I doubt it because I've never actually have come across a "witch" though I do live in the coast of California so that might be why. I'm not talking about witches with powers like in Charmed because that's unrealistic, I mean women that practice the art of witchcraft and do spells to attract what they want.

Do you think all that is real? Or do you think those spells work? Better yet have you ever met someone who claims they practice witchcraft?

As a wiccan, I've met plenty of other wiccans that also consider themselves witches. There are certain aspects of what people think is witchcraft that they actually practice, but it's far from some Devil-worshipping, evil, black-magic mess. It's practically like being in any other religion.
Now, not all wiccans are witches, and not all witches are wiccan, though they do often go together.

In 9th grade, I cast a spell on my crush. It says it'd take a while before he starts having feelings for me but I've been waiting ever since. I even did a ritual to get my powers, I just don't understand

I have as well. I've heard that they are very in tune with nature or something? I don't know, I'm not educated on the subject. I've just read some things.

However, when I was around the age of 18, I gathered some ingredients from the backyard to do this spell that was supposed to help with acne. I can't remember it to a T, but I know it had to do with dirt and leaves and mixing it up and then a chant. I did this over the course of like two weeks and the pimples and whatnot started to fade away.

I'm actually interested in learning about witches and that whole bit. I don't know much to even say anything but I do believe that they're real.

That's pretty interesting stuff. So since you said it's like being in a religion, is that the reason they have covens?

In Southeast Asian countries, we know a famous witchcraft practice from Thailand. They plant and take care this special kind of tree at home, they believe that lost souls would stay inside the tree and help the owners to do tasks for them: protecting the house, hauting somebody, blah blah.
I try not to think about this, but a lot of people are really afraid of these practices.

Personally I believe in magic, but it doesn't necessarily work the way we assume. I think magic is beyond regular understanding but that's me. A friend of mine is wiccan btw.

How so? According to the definition, God uses magic. He used it to create the world and used it to communicate with people on earth and such. So how exactly would God be less believable than witchcraft, given the tiny similarities?

What I find funny is how everyone dismisses magic and doesn't believe in it, yet everyone wishes for a magical solution to their problems. But yes I do believe that some people can connect with nature and karma, but like everything else in this world, there is good and bad.

although it would be fun to learn how to cast spells/curses on people.

Sort of. Plus, it helps people who are new to it to join a group of people rather than be on their own. Everyone acts sort of like each others' mentors, and it works out.
One thing I find interesting is that witchcraft (Along with wicca in general) are not about evil; both groups believe in karma, usually. It bothers me that people think all wiccans or all witches are all about casting hexes on people and whatnot.

My roommate called herself a witch, and my experiences with that have only cemented my understanding that "wiccan"or whatever is just something invented by young girls and gay boys who need to feel "special" and have started developing issues differentiating reality from fantasy. Witchcraft is not real in any capacity - if it were it would be a legitimate science by now. Some of the spells I've seen her do are hilarious, writing notes and putting them in honey with a candle for love (she never got laid). Or buying special rocks for intelligence and wisdom (still failed her exams).

If this **** were real, it would be an actual science. Like an actual science, not a science you find in discount bins in the back of book stores. A lot of stuff they call "witchcraft" is just every day stuff that for some unexplainable reason is considered magic. Like meditation and karma - both very arbitrary concepts to begin with.

Human beings are bound to their natural biological capabilities - nothing is every going to chance that. Not even if you watch a ton of Charmed or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
