I'm from Germany and Sylvie's popularity here has been dwindling recently. She's hosting the German version of "Dancing With The Stars" and last season she did pretty badly, often resorting to jokes and comments of questionable taste and below the belt to get attention. So I think she wouldn't be afraid to even use something like this to stay in the headlines.
And I don't think this caused her split from Guillaume, we don't even know who ended the relationship and personally I thought it was more a matter of long distance/not enough time for each other or that he did not want to have such a public relationship (just my speculation though).
