The technology out there is ridiculous. And people will fall for anything under the guise "it is to stop the terrorists." A study found that people were more likely agree with intensive security measures soon after terrorists attacks. That means, after a terrorist attack, more people agree to surrender the right to their privacy.
I am not here for a police state where all my actions are monitored. But it is already happening. Not just in America either. CCTV Cameras
I work in the IT industry and believe me, the NSA is the last thing you should be worried about when it comes to privacy. You would be shocked at how little your private information is actually protected by the government and private industries online. Many times when you hear about a website being "hacked" and having private information stolen, the "hack" is as simple as changing a few characters in a URL.
Because they don't talk about the most important stuff on the televised news!!! Russ Tice came out 8 YEARS AGO saying that the NSA were spying on, and could be blackmailing senators, congressman, judges, and even BARACK OBAMA & HILLARY CLINTON!!!! Nobody cares because nobody knows just how far it goes!! But it's *just for protection from terrorists*
Most people realize but can do literally nothing about. It's acceptance of inevitability. I think most people also get that the information is archived more than actively watched. Understand there 300+ million people able to be watched, they can't get us all. It's creepy, yes, but the likelihood of them giving any ****s about you is so minimal that it's kinda pointless to "worry."
Many of them have been brainwashed to believe that "fighting terrorism" (when, ironically, the US government murders far more people in acts of terrorism than have ever died because of it on its own soil) is worth giving up your rights. It's tragic really.
And to those who say "I don't have anything to hide", of course you do. It's the reason why you send a PM to someone instead of posting it publicly. Governments archive information like this so that when you, or a friend of yours, or a family member does anything that they don't like (which doesn't necessarily have to be illegal) they can use all the information they have on you to blackmail, to control and suppress. You might have made a comment years ago on a chat that could cost you your job now, or talked badly about your boss, or sent a nude picture, or discussed with a friend over Skype (yes, even Skype is recorded, but all in the name of fighting terrorists right?) how a family member was trying to pay less taxes, it will ALL be used against you.
People have a RIGHT to privacy and no terrorist threat (which in this case is largely imagined and greatly exaggerated) should take that away.
