Lady Gaga basically went and ditched everything she had built up on a an album that sounded like remixed 80's tracks which is when Madonna ruled supreme. So of course the comparisons would still be there even if Born This Way (the song) didn't exist, although there would be less direct comparisons.
I think everyone is hoping that she moves forward in general, rather than rehash sounds that have been done already. There is a difference to being inspired (Love You Like A Love Song, Dance In The Dark) and then making songs like Marry The Night that could easily be from an album then.
Not saying in the slightest that the music is bad. But it had been done. It just had updated production.

So, you're basically saying a whole music trend (80s influenced) was linked to Madonna cause that was when Madonna was big? Oh, ok, then.
And he didn't really drag her I don't think. This is what everyone is going to be looking for in her upcoming music. In an effort to prove how much Gaga doesn't sound like Madonna, reviewers will actually bring more relevancy to the comparisons. Hopefully it fizzles out by the second single.
