Does the Firefox OS have a chance to rival Andorid & Apple?
Does it? It features the best features out of all the big three and it's cheap.
But with phone plans making it easy to get expensive phones anyway, is it pointless?
Firefox OS is meant very cheap phones for emerging markets, similar to Nokia's Asha platform.
According to the guy with the long red hair (some guy at Firefox I can't remember his name ) it's also meant to be a standard phone for people who don't want high end phones but want a smartphone experience.
It's doing both. Similar to the Kindle Fire's purpose.
Windows Phone just broke it's record sales last quarter. It's gaining steam right now but is still not a major contender for the two giant operating systems and I doubt another Android-like OS will make it's way to be considered a contender to iOS and Android.

Ooh, looks quite cool. I might actually get one depending on how much it is, I don't really need one of the big expensive fancy Smartphones. As long as it Calls, Texts and accesses social media I'd be quite happy with it. Looks like a massive improvement on my crappy Blackberry, at the very least.
$99 bucks it could be mine. It's still a newer phone than the one I have.
I actually really like the FastLane idea though. It's what I have asked for in an OS. One screen, everything I need. With a bigger screen, they could have sold me.

It's not competing against iOS and Android. It's made for low-end devices.
Nokia Asha is far more interesting, and it has a low price from an excellent manufacturer (hint: not Huawei or ZTE). The 501 will destroy it.
