Some of these are such absolute non-events, while others are ridiculously offensive and short-sighted. Let me go down the list…
Purple Fashion: Tired Christ imagery. Maybe it's a cute metaphor about the victimization/media crucifixion of every basic gay's favourite human trainwreck and Hollywood punchline, Lindsay Lohan.
Vogue Homme: Glamorizing rape and male aggression. Pathetic shock imagery rooted in misogyny. How ~*taboo*~ of you Vogue.
Vogue "Avant-Garde": Impossibly cinched waist, as if these women weren't disproportionately skinny enough. Still, these women are the ~canvas of fashion~, too bad they're stuck modelling outfits period piece costumes masquerading as couture.
Bazaar: I'm not sure I get what's controversial about Angelina on the cover. Anyone enlighten me?
AnOther: Disgustingly racist red-face cover.
Dazed: Azealia Banks with a blown-up condom. I think the cover is actually cute and it suits her. Complete nontroversy.
Elle: The woman is nude I guess? Someone explain to me why women can't be topless on these but men can. And don't give me "oh because women's bodies are sexualized"- because whose fault is that? The men who objectify and sexualize women's bodies to the point it's considered obscene? Ridiculousness.
Elle: Queen Gabourey Sidibe. I guess people blew their **** because there was a talented, beautiful, dark-skinned woman on the cover who wasn't a rail-thin waif submitting to male sexual desires.
Teen Vogue: Jourdan and Chanel. Not sure what about this is interesting, let alone controversial.
Vogue: LeBron James and some white woman (they all look the same to me). I think I recall people being angry about this because it was a clear allusion to King Kong grasping the tiny white lady as he climbed the skyscraper. I see it.
V: Miley's camel toe I guess. I like the look. I have my issues with her but I love how she's embracing the boyish looks.
Lucky: Brit. Also not sure how people are bothered by this. Is it because she's photoshopped? I mean, have they seen the Circus album cover?
V: Naomi Campbell tied up on a bed. Images of violence against and dominance of women is no new taboo, but fashion has been strip-mining it as if it's interesting or edgy. Wake me up when the fashion world moves from weak attempts at exploitative shock imagery.
Vanity Fair: Demi Moore pregnant & nude. God forbid a woman's nudity isn't completely tailored for a men's sexual consumption.
Elle: Jessica Simpson pregnant. See above.
Vogue Homme: Some ripped guy on the cover. He looks a bit older. Not sure. I'll admit, I yawned when I first saw it.
W: Our favorite modelling superheroin Kate Moss in a lacy nun's habit. Caption: Fashion Bible. Button-pushing stuff if you're from the Bible Belt.
W: Kim Kardashian wearing a latex fleshtone bodysuit- oh wait, that's supposed to be her skin? I guess it's just more female nudity = edgy/art/offensive? The only thing I find offensive about this is the use of the Supreme font. Ugh.
Fault: Beyonce serving contortionist crash test dummy. I love my girl and she looks fantastic, but this shoot is just the most for me. I get that she's curvy and sexy but I'm really thinking they photoshopped her head and limbs in all these photos to make her look like she's bending in all these unnatural ways. It's striking I guess. Also: glittery nudity.
