Two games from the same genre - Dota 2 being developed by the iconic VALVe and the developer who made the MOBA/ARTS genre popular - IceFrog, and League of Legends - the most played and dare I say successful game currently.

Both games have their pros and concs with Dota 2 being way harder to learn and LOL having the same hero released with different skin.

League of Legends has the Goddess called Annie so it wins by default.

I doubt DOTA 2 can overthrone LoL. LoL has become so enormous because it also appeals to casual gamers.

I love the original heroes from Lol. They are awesome and everyone feels unique. I love Annie too. However, the new ones aren't exactly masterpieces. They feel and play the same.
Dota 2 also has one more advantage - it is completely free - you can play with every hero you want, whenever I want.

I completely agree, and the game used to be a lot more balanced. Now you literally see the same lane comps again and again.

The only reason I'm ignoring DotA 2 is because I've played LoL for a LONG time (since beta) and I've spent a lot of money through the years, so I don't want to feel like I've completely wasted the money. But I think I'm going to give a real chance to DotA 2, tired of the same and the new champions aren't doing anything for me.

I prefer League so much more, the champions are so much more enjoyable not only by their kits, but also by their personalities.

You should try it at least. It won't hurt (a lot), I promise.

This is really subjective though. You should hear some of the lines from the dota2 heroes. They're hilarious. Very often, the heroes share some common story between them and this is reflected in their dialogue. It's quite funny actually.

Well, Dota community can be the pits sometimes but they won't report you for ridiculous reasons like the Lol players - there are some mental cases out there.

I have always wanted to get into these. Are there any single player intro's you can play to learn the games?

You can and should play with bots if you're new. Play at least 50+ games with bots to get used to the gameplay and the artwork.
These games heavily rely on teamplay and if you screw up, expect a living hell to be unleashed upon you. Don't give up so easily. When you lose, it sucks big time but when you win, it's one of the best feelings ever. Also if you have a friend, you should play with him. It's really an addicting experience.
