Because they are personally and emotionally disconnected from the terror that this person caused. They don't recognize (or at least I hope they don't), all the pain and suffering this individual caused on the lives of innocent civilians. They don't think of the person with severed limbs whose life is now forever changed.
Instead they think he is cute.
