This is an interesting way of looking at it. However, let's say you have 10 songs, each of a different genre and one of those genres is currently popular, that means that that 90% of your music is not popular at the moment, meaning your music is not timeless.

You have such a restricted way of thinking.

He pointed out that Rihanna will always have songs that will appeal to the masses at one time because she does different genres, which is true. The numbers are irrelevant. In comparison to other pop girls who focus on one specific genre, she will always have the upper hand. While, say she has one popular (reggae) song at the moment, the rest has none.

Then again, she has multiple multi-genres albums, so that increases her number of popular songs at one time.

Those who make music that are less mainstream, less pop are generally less dated, I guess, as their music will be less identified with the time of its release.

Adele and Amy are the most "timeless" imo.

Gaga and J Lo are on the opposite end.

Amy Winhehouse her first wo and only two album still sound fresh years later and could have easily been released today or before the 2000's decade and be praised.

Adele also makes great music and no matter how many times her music is played I just can't get enough of it.

Beyonce because Crazy In Love still sounds fresh to date. Plusher albums have aged relatively well so far.
