She’s been described as an R&B version of Lana del Rey whose songwriting draws comparisons to the dark musings of The Weeknd. But L.A. native Phlo Finister is much more than this unlikely combination suggests. Inspired by Edie Sedgwick and friends with Azealia Banks, she’s music’s newest ‘It girl’.
Born Elijah Finister, Phlo grew up in Oakland California. She had a conservative upbringing, singing in church and being banned by her parents from listening to urban music. Relocating to Los Angeles at the age of eleven, it wasn’t long before she dropped out of school, starting living on her own and embarked on an artistic career.
Working as a stylist and model at Def Jam in her late teens Phlo developed a fascination with the ‘Youthquake’ movement – a term coined by Diana Vreeland in the sixties to define the explosion of teenage influence in music and fashion. Evident in her unique style is a particular fascination with Andy Warhol’s muse Edie Sedgwick. Though Edie’s look has been an inspiration to many a young ingénue, Phlo reappropriates elements of her image into something more urban while also channeling the sense of sadness that defined this tragic figure.
Now the 21-year-old is getting ready to make her official debut in London, a city that she has always had an affinity with. Not only is she performing at Wireless festival but has announced her first official headline show at The Seabright Arms on 31st July.

Mess, why don't they just put up those two new songs up for free download. If anything she should release the lead single from "Youthquaker" now.
Is it true that Phlo wants to quit the music business after the release of her album? I've read that somewhere but I'm not sure if it's true. I hope not.

She was supposed to quit after the release of the [10 track] Poster Girl LP/Mixtape in December 2012.
But since then, she signed with Night Beach i believe.
At least, this EP will be release via that label.
