Also, the shipment figure for 8 million was reported in 2011. It is very likely that they have shipped more. News sources obviously wouldn't report of a new shipment figure because Born This Way isn't a new album anymore.

Most of the sources that have reported Born This Way's sales have range from 7 to 10 million. Billboard is very reliable. So if they confirmed 8 million, they are likely very right on the dot.

I do believe 7 million is still a better estimate. I'm pretty sure the 8 million figure comes from the International Business Times which reported it in late 2011 (obviously referring to shipments), and was just later picked up by other music publications.

I tried to do a breakdown and this is the best I could come to:

Some countries are missing, and some totals are not fully updated (though I doubt much has changed), so it is definitely closer to 7m than 6m (the "other" figure which is often brought up).

Gaga might top 10M albums sold in the US by the end of the year, with barely three full studio albums released. Her current total is 8.786M (give or take a few thousand copies), so she needs a little more than 1.2M albums to get there.

She could get that in a couple weeks, if the app counts.

I want ARTPOP to sell more than Born This Way did in the US (2.2 million).

I would also love for it to open more than Born This Way did worldwide, over 2 million.

i think she will pass BTW in the U.S with sales ranging from 2.5-3M or maybe even more with the app ! and with the app on first week sales i think she can pass 2M !

also if her documentary comes out next year she will see a boost in sales. i say another 200K in the U.S just from the movie ! so I'd say 3M for ARTPOP this era

The 99 cent deal shade is so stale. Gaga is a huge album seller.
