In anticipation of The Weeknd’s upcoming debut album, Kiss Land, the singer released the video for, Belong to the World.
The video for the song, which samples Portishead's Machine Gun, features the artist as a part of a military regime exploring Japan. The Weeknd’s self-pity seems to derive from a broken heart or bruised ego, as the rest of his uniformed acquaintances admire a woman he’s had his eye on for quite some time.
But a broken heart or bruised ego may be the least of The Weeknd’s problems. Earlier today (July 15), Portishead producer Geoff Barrow took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with The Weeknd sampling the band’s song.
"I think it’s a load of bollox," said Barrow before adding, "When someone asks to sample you and you refuse they should have the respect as a fellow artist to not use it."
