The world was rocked by the tragic news that actor Cory Monteith was found to have died in Canada over the weekend and his Glee co-star and girlfriend, Lea Michele, has now spoken out in a statement. Described as 'devastated', she has asked for privacy to allow her and their friends and family to try to deal with events.
Cory was discovered to have died at the hotel he was staying at in Canada on Saturday (July 13) after hotel staff became concerned following his failure to make check out. Alone in the hotel at the time, he had apparently spent the evening with friends before returning to his room.
Following the events, girlfriend Lea has released a statement via her spokesperson, asking for space to grieve and try to come to terms with events. Even more devastating are reports that the pair had been planning to marry later this summer.
Her rep spoke to People and said: "We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time."
As the news spread, tributes have poured in from several members of the Glee cast as well as old friends Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
Posting a photo of herself and Cory hugging on Twitter, Selena said: "This hurts. I love you Cory. Rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family."
